Washing your durag help keep your skin clear from the dirt and grime that builds up over time from the wave grease and your scalps natural oils. 

Also, washing your durag prevent the dreaded smell that comes with a dirty durag. The best way to wash your durag is by hand, here are a couple of steps you should follow:

1. Use a mild detergent along with warm water
2. Gently rub the detergent over the durag, rinsing and repeating (you might see the water coming from the durag being darker in color)
3. One the water that is being rung from the durag is clear in color, you should rise again, making sure that all the detergent is removed and then hang dry the durag.
